Friday, Lord rama and sita age difference dating 18, Marrying an elder women. Village life game dating mya it make sense? It's been a tradition in india or rather across the globe as per my observation that a marriage usually happens between a younger woman and an elder man. Dahing we take a historic data of decades then we would see that the women's age had been too less than her husband's age in olden days around 15 yrs gap. And slowly with time the age gap starting decreasing and decreasing further. Now the average xnd gap of marriage would be 3 yrs with the woman still being younger than the man. But then there are instances where we would also see some love marriages happening where a women is elder than the man arma case is sachin tendulkar.
If we take a historic data of decades then we would see that the women's age had been too less than her husband's age in olden days around 15 yrs gap. But then there are instances where we would also see some love marriages happening where a women is elder than the man popular case is sachin tendulkar.
But then society doesn't welcome these marriages at all and people look at them as if it's a big sin created, as if it's a very nasty and a shameless act. I recently came across two such cases in my close vicinity and have also closely observed how bad the near and dear feel about it. They feel as if the couple have commited an unpardonable sin of marrying an elder women. But then if you really think seriously on this, i did not find anything very wrong in this.
In fact, if we look back to the aryan times ramayana, mahabharata etc etc , we will find many couples in the mythology where the wifes were elder than the men.
Good example is Sita who is considered elder than Rama, according to one school of thoughts. Valmeeki does not mention the position of nodes. Rama's birth date: For instance just before the time of proposed coronation, it is deduced that a solar eclipse occurred in the birth star of Dasaratha. His birth star is not noted in Valmeeki Ramayana. But using the inputs given by Dasaratha himself on the kind of planetary affliction to his birth star, it is deduced that his birth star was either Aswini or Revathy.
My article on this is pending publication in a magazine and hence I am not writing here the details of how I deduced it.
I will upload it in my scribd once it is published. The year of the proposed coronation was BC This puts Rama;s age at that time at 25 years. Looking at the places where the age is mentioned, Kausalya grieves on hearing the aborted coronation saying that she has waited for 17 years since the birth of Rama to see him rule.
If we assume that Rama was 17 years of age when he was about to be crowned, the question comes when he was married. At 2 places Sita says that she was happily married for 12 years before the coronation was fixed.
She says this first to Ravana who came in disguise to deceive her in Aranya khandam. Sita tells the same thing to Hanuman in Sundhara Khandam as follows: Ignoring these details which were clearly told in later chapters, we can not say that Kausalya meant that Rama was 17 years when he was about to be crowned. If so when was he married.
If we deduct 12 years of togetherness of Rama and Sita and a couple, then it comes to 5 years as the age of Rama at the time of marriage. But then why did Kausalya make such a statement? The 'jaatasya' can be about the upanayanam of Rama. There is no exact mention of the time of upanayanam of Rama in Valmeeki Ramayana.
It is all mentioned in a single verse in the chapter on Rama's birth V. Since astrology has been very much part of life in those days, Rama's upanayanam could not have taken place before 8 years.
In the next one she says that when Lord Ram left for exile, his age was 25 years. And finally she iterate that she was 18 years at that time. This concludes that Mother Sita left for exile with Lord Ram at the age of 18 and before that she was in Ayodhya for around 2 years meaning she was married somewhere at the age of Dwa is two and Dash represents Dashrath.
Hindi has got this peculiar advantage that if we shift the space just by one word the meaning of whole sentence changes. This means that at that time kids were kept close in the room. So "band rkha" and "bandar kha" can change the whole essence of the sentence similar is the case with Dwa-dash and Dwadash here. Tulsidaasji in Raamcharitmanas has also mentioned mother Sita was a teen rather than a kid. Sayani in hindi refers to mature adult and not to kids.
